J Psycle

Jeremy Psycle, founder of the District Sound collective and a member of the notorious Washington D.C. based District Junglist League, has been involved with the drum’n’bass scene in one form or another since 2001. He has DJ’d at legendary local D.C. nightspots such as Home Nightclub, Buzz @ Nation, and the seminal Sunday Night Sessions. He has also written articles for the Toronto-based, North American Jungle mag, Rinse Magazine.
Now, in 2005, he’s working with various labels such as the newly revamped Technorganic Recordings, Ruff N Tuff Recordings, and Twisted Individual’s new Zombie Recordings. With a handful of 12” vinyl cuts, a full mix CD, and a limited CD release of his earlier District Sound work, all slated for release in early 2005, Psycle is going to be very difficult not to take note of in the near future.
His production and DJing style doesn’t focus on any one subgenre of drum’n’bass, more like an ever-evolving assimilation of his many various influences. He challenges himself to make notable improvements and advancements as an artist and engineer with each successive new tune. The one common factor on all of his music is that it is all “dark funk”. Influences include his DnB contemporaries such as Dylan, 1.8.7, Dom & Roland, Ed Rush & Optical, Moving Fusion, and Karl K, as well as heavy Jazz/Funk/Soul/Hiphop influences including James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Cannonball Adderley, People Under The Stairs, Mos Def, and The Neptunes.
